After the engine is cold disconnect the top radiator hose from the engine side, not the radiator side. Should be two bolts holding on a housing that the hose went onto, take those out. Remove the housing (most places call it water outlet housing). Thermostat will be inside there. You will most likely need a replacement water outlet gasket since most of them fall apart when you remove the housing.
