The knocking (could even be a light rattle) sound begins as I begin to release the clutch and before I hit the gas. Sometimes, I hear it while the car is in idling in neutral. I dont hear the noise while driving. I have 65K miles on it. I'm kinda lost as to what it could be...Any suggestions???

A loose heat shield will have a rattle, very tin like, whereas a clutch release bearing will have a little knocking noise when the clutch is pushed in..........................

Possibly the clutch release bearing.

Sounds like your throw out bearing going bad.

Put the parking break on. Put the car in neutral.With the engine running put your foot on the clutch pedal. If the sound starts and stops as you place you foot on the pedal, your throw-out (clutch release) bearing is worn out.If replacing it, replace the clutch and pressure plate while you are at it.

that could be a few things, I would first check for something loose near the transmission, like sheet metal, mounts and exhaust parts.next I would check the clutch disk and the bearing in the flywheel and the clutch release bearing, also I would check to see if the clutch disk is binding on transmission input shaft, I usually grease that with the disk break lubricate so that it will not make noise.my guess is that it will keep working for a long time making a noise like that, likely you can ignore it.

i think ur car just needs to get it RPM adjusted on idle... ideal is 800 revo/min...
