Though you might be set on large rims, keep in mind performance and gas mileage are both compromised when you go with bigger rims. The car you own is well engineered, and the stock size rims, plus or minus an inch, are the best size for the vehicle. Remember, bigger rims are heavier and more weight = less efficiency and slower acceleration. If you're going for looks and not performance, and you can find a lowering kit, make sure it fits the stock tire size. Then find tires that can fit with the rims you want and make sure they are the same diameter as the stock size, and as close as possible to the stock width. Backspacing can be added if the tires rub.

I have a 99 civic with 18" Konig Hotswaps. I have a full Omnipower coilover setup, thats lowered 1 1/2 inches. The 18's and lowering eliminated thed fenderwell gap and it DOES NOT rub.
