no, the old relay unplugs from the connector and you just plug in the new one.the relay should be located up under the left side (driver's side) of your instrument panel roughly behind the coin tray. It is usually gray but may be brown in color.the old relays had a problem with the circuit board inside the relay cracking and breaking the circuits. soldering was a 'fix' that would last for a while until the board cracked again. You don't need to solder the new one because it has a new circuit board that shouldn't crack from the high temperature in the cabin.hope that helps
