Default Honda won't start!!?

I have an 86 Honda Accord. Manual Transmission, 2 barrel carb. The car started fine a few days ago, but now, the starter won't throw out and crank the engine. We replaced the starter, and the problem still remains. The starter however, WILL throwout while the car is in 1st gear! PLEASE HELP! what is wrong with my car???

The starter WILL throw out when in first gear though eh? That makes it sound like you are trying to start the car in neutral when it's not in gear and you think you don't need to press in the clutch because the car's not in gear...On the contrary my friend, the starter has an interlock that prevents you from starting the car while in gear which would cause it to lurch forward at the least and charge forward if it started. that interlock is a switch that activates when the clutch is fully depressed. My bet is that it starts in 1st gear (or any other gear) because you have the clutch depressed. If you know this already then I suspect that the switch I am referring to has been dislodged from it's normal place and is acting erratically. Good luck!

there should be a starter relay in that car that closes the circuit to the starter solinoid and allows that to engage the starter. Check in the underhood relay box for the starter relay. Other than that, make sure the connections are good.the starter is not engaging when you push start the car. You are turning the engine over when the transmission is engaged and the wheels that are turning the axles at that time turn the engine over (through the transmission). So its the rotation of the wheels, axles and transmission gears that are turning the engine over and not the starter.I'm pretty sure you'll find the starter relay is bad if the connections are good. you can test for power at the starter with a test light if you have one. You'll need to know what terminal on the solenoid is from the ignition switch--it will be the small wire terminal, not the big battery cable terminal on the starter solenoid Then, have someone else turn the ignition to the Start position and hold it there while you test for voltage at the ignition terminal of the starter solenoid. If the test light lights up, then the problem is with the starter solenoid or connections. If the light doesn't light up then the problem is with the starter relay.hope that helps
