Default 2004 Honda Civic HX --- CVT makes rumbling sound on acceleration.?

I love my Civic, but I notice it makes a rumbling sound almost always upon acceleration. Is this normal for a continuous variable transmission? What is causing it?

there could be one of several problems. first check the CV joints, then the front wheel bearings , motor/transmission mounts./ lower ball joints... any one of these things could cause a noise during acceleration

there like universial joints on older cars. They ware out and need replacement. The longer you drive that car, with the constant velosity joints like that, the more damage and money for repairs, will come to light.

This is a very common 'problem' on the Honda CVT. The answer is simple; the fluid for the CVT needs to be changed. After a while the additives in the fluid become depleted and allow the 'start clutch' to remain engaged when you are accelerating. This puts a load on the engine and causes the vibration or shutter.Have your honda dealer change the fluid and you'll find the car will be back to new. By the way, fluid changes are considered "maintenance" and are not covered by warranty. hope that helps
