Default Problem Starting up?

It's been happening for the past 2 days, I have to turn on the ignition first and wait till the engine light turns off before it can start. What could be the problem? It's a 92 civic

Could it be the change in weather and dampness? Call the Honda tech support line and see if there's a technical bulletin or recall notice about this issue. You might luck out and there's a recall. If it is a problem that needs to be fixed, keep the receipts as if it then later becomes a recall, you will be reimbursed.

if you're saying that the engine will not start to crank until the lights on the dash come on then you have a battery with a very low reserve. It takes a while for a low battery to generate electricity (it does so through a chemical reaction inside the battery) so until the current in the battery ramps up enough to turn the starter nothing happens. I'll bet that the time for this to happen is about the same amount of time as it takes for your engine light to come on.Have your battery tested. Chances are you'll find its almost dead. Most parts stores will test it on your car so you don't need to take it out to get it tested. Most will do it for free.hope that helps

The PCM (engine computer) could be the problem, check engine light is controlled by it.There is no way to test the PCM except try a good known one, according to the service manual.Problem will become progressively worse.HTH.
