A Vtec Is just a designation for the type of motor. There is nothing to "kick" in. It`s not a turbo. It runs just like any motor, there is no massive jump in power at certain rpm`s.

first check oil level vtec operating range on most Honda's is between 4500rpm-5800rpm if oil is low than the vtec rocker arm will not make contact camshaft cause it not to function ,or you have a bad variable timing solenoid.. also some engine faults that cause check engine light to illuminate will prevent vehicle from hitting vtec..tell talon to drive a s2000 or type-r he will find out what vtec is LOL

pontiac really that engine would be broken by the first oil change, many times vtec wont engage because of low oil. Then it could be the green soild on your head, and then check any prob loose wires from that area

Did you feel the vtec kick on before, or is this a new car to you?-If it's a new car to you then you don't usually feel vtec kick in, especially if it's a SOHC D-series engine.-If it just suddenly stopped, then your oil pressure could be low, or if you're driving it around when the engine temp hasn't warmed up, it won't activate. Here's some other things to think about:-How exactly do you know it's not kicking on? Do you just not feel a boost of power or is the engine power sluggish at higher rpms?-Are you throwing any check engine light codes? If you are then pull them and fix the problems. A problem with the vtec solenoid or pressure switch could cause problems, as well as having a faulty knock sensor can as well.
