There is no reason that somebody should try to increase the horsepower on a Civic. It is a waste of time, money and effort, and the result will not be nearly as wonderful as you imagine.Just save up and buy a car that is meant to have more than 130 hp.

Order race ready heads or find a import tuner shop in your area and have them to port the heads and install AEM cams and Cam sprockets install a bigger throttle body to the intake change the ignition system to a MSD with denso spark plugsyou will notice the differance and performance.

If you want to try it then go for it, don't let others stop you, because there is a replacement for displacement, it is called volumetric effeciency; no, I am not just making this up I am majoring in chemical engineering. If you don't want to get a new engine then you are probably either limited in cash or the car is from your parents. If either of those are the case then turbo is probably out of the question as well. A header is a good addition to add a little torque, and will be required to get the most from an aftermarket intake and exhaust. I would not recommend an aftermarket ecu or computer chip unless you can find one by Hondata, because a civic isn't going to make spectacular numbers. You will probably want to get an msd igniton box, and with that also an external coil (try the blaster ss) and msd power cap (modified distributor cap to allow for the external coil). You will also want a spiral wound spark plug wire, like those offered from msd or accel, and platinum or iridium spark plugs (try the platinum +4's from bosch). Getting better tires (try yokohama) won't increase horsepower, but will help you be able to use horsepower more effeciently. You can probably find an aftermarket camshaft which will help as well. I would say you should switch to a synthetic motor oil if you haven't already done so (I recommend Mobil 1 and a k&n "gold" oil filter.) You are most likely not going to see more than 20 horsepower from everything listed, but that's about all you can do without swapping in a k20 or getting a turbo/supercharger. The only other alternative I can recommend is nitrous oxide. It creates an endothermic reaction that can help you out a lot, but don't put more than a 55 shot on a stock civic (and you must also use a minimum of 92 octane gas with this option with nitrous or you will end up going lean). Good Luck to you.
