Default Honda Odyssey minivan?

We are strongly considering buying an "07 Honda Odyssey minivan. We have had experience with the Toyota Sienna (which has been good), but like some of the features on the Odyssey. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has or has had the Honda Odyssey in regards to their experience with it. Would you buy another? Thanks. Some who have answered do not accept email, so I'm unable to ask specific questions about their comments. Please change your profile to accept email so that I may contact you if I have a question about your response.

I sold Honda's for two years and before I left my parents bought an 05 odyssey touring with dvd and nav. and they absolutely love it. I can tell you that I have extensively studied both the Odyssey and Sienna. While both are great vehicles, I do prefer the Odyssey for drivability, handling, easy of use of features, and price. Which trim level are you looking at?

I'm on my second Odyssey and will soon be upgrading to my third. Three of my friends have Siennas and love them as well. If you're trying to decide between the two, consider this. If you are going for top of the line, get the Sienna Limited. It has a few more feature than the Odyssey Touring, like available AWD and power folding seats. If you are going for middle of the road, get the Odyssey EX since both sliding doors are power (big feature) as opposed to the Sienna where only the passenger slider is power. If you're going for the base model, go with the Odyssey as well. Middle row aptains chairs and side curtain airbags are standard, not so on the Sienna. Also, the variable cylinder feature on the Odyssey is a gas saver for highway drivers. I think it's available on EX and avve models. Hope that helps. I've put more research into this subject than I care to think about! I love the website Edmunds.com since you can compare features side by side. Good luck!

Few years ago, I dreamt of buying a Odyssey, but last year when I affored to buy a van, I purchased a Toyota Sienna. Why? Because: my boss had a 2002 Odyssey and in the first year, that van had to replace the transmission twice. In addition, my aunt had a 2003 Odyssey and less than 10, 000 miles, it had to replace an electrical component. Then at 35,000 miles, that van had to replace a new transmission. Those cases were fixed under warranty, but think about the discomfortability when your family is travelling far away and the problems happened... Besides, there is one forum which it posts many comments from people who experienced the problems with Oddyssey's transmissions. I remember one guy wrote: "After many years with many customers have complained about the transmission's problems, Honda should buy and install American transmissions to their vans instead of using their own." You can go to Yahoo or Google and type "Honda Oddyssey's transmission problems" or something like that and read the reviews by yourself. Good luck!

I have a 2005 Odyssey and absolutely love it! I bought it because I was having my 3rd child and I couldn't fit 3 kids in the backseat of my Accord.Anyway, it drives beautifully. I'm only 5'2" tall and it doesn't feel too big to me. It's really like driving a sedan that's higher up off the ground. I bought the model that comes with a DVD player and leather seats. I thought (correctly) that having both of those would be a good idea with kids. The leather seats are sooo comfortable! And the DVD player has cordless headsets that the kids can use, though 2 of my 3 kids are still too young for that.I've had only basic maintenance performed (oil changes, etc.). I did not buy the extended warranty knowing the kind of quality that Honda puts out. I paid around $32k for it and plan to keep it at least 10 years.Honestly, the only negative to me is the gas mileage. I get around 18 mpg. That might be ok for a minivan, but I was used to getting closer to 30 mpg with my Accord. It's a little unsettling at first to have a large increase in my gas expense.I would definitely buy another, and I recommend it to everyone who asks me about it.
