Default Is it true that Honda is recalling all Civics because the wheels fall off?

I thought Honda built cars to last not fall apart. That can't be very safe. Should I stop driving Honda? Should I sell the Honda?

Check this out. BAD news!!!NEWS: Honda Recalls 182,756 Civics Over Wheel-Bearing LeakSept. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Honda Motor Co. is recalling 182,756 Civics, the automaker's second-best selling U.S. model, to fix a wheel-bearing seal that may leak and cause the wheel to fall off. The recall, covering 2006 and 2007 model-year Civic sedans and coupes, was reported on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Web site. The affected models were made from March 24, 2005, through Feb. 8, 2007, Honda said. Water may be able to seep past an O-ring seal on the wheel bearing, damaging the bearing, Tokyo-based Honda said in a letter on the NHTSA Web site. ``This could cause a wheel to fall off of the vehicle, possibly resulting in a crash,'' Honda said. Honda, No. 5 in U.S. sales this year, said it will notify owners by mail starting Sept. 17 and replace any damaged parts for free. No injuries or accidents have been reported, said Honda spokesman David Iida, who is based in Detroit. The automaker also is recalling 19,904 2006 model-year Civic sedans and hybrids to repair a brake-light switch that may fail, according to a letter on the NHTSA site. Honda said it will notify owners beginning Sept. 27. Grease can build up on the steering column and allow oil to drip onto the switch, preventing the brake lights from illuminating and ``potentially resulting in a crash,'' Honda said. The extra grease may also prevent drivers from shifting gears out of the ``Park'' position, Honda said. The two recalls don't overlap because the models affected were built in different places, said Iida, who declined to say what the recalls would cost. No accidents or injuries have been linked to the brake-light switch, Iida said.

Yep, but it only effects the cars built in Alliston, Ontario. Apparently they didn't train people how to install the wheel bearing seals properly. So much for QA at Honda! This is going to hurt their reputation.

Josh: It should be safe to keep driving your Honda and to sell it would rather rash. While Honda Canada does have a recall on certain Civics it does NOT affect ALL Civics. Your wheels are likely NOT going to fall off just because there is a recall. There are usually warning signs long before that happens like a grinding noise. Many times it could be literally years before your "wheels fall off".Anyone owning a Civic is advised to hang tight - Honda Canada will be sending notices in the mail out to those with VIN numbers affected by the recall. Provding that Honda has your current address you will receive a notice which you can then take to your local Honda dealership to book an appointment for the repairs. If Honda does not have your current address it is recommended you call them or your dealership and have them update it. Without a current address on file they have no way of contacting you if issues do arise.Like I said only certain Civics with VIN number within a certain range are being recalled. It is highly unlikely that your car is in any immediate danger of having it's wheels come off unless you have been aware of the warning signs before hand. If your car has been grinding and making noises then I would say you haven't had it in for a maintance check recently.Honda vehicles have a very good safety rating and as I said selling it because of this recall is rather rash. Regular maintance is important to any vehicle and if you've kept yours up todate then it's unlikely that there is anything wrong. Regular maintance checks usually catch problems when they are small especially if you have been taking it to a Honda dealership for servicing.

As the owner of an '06 Civic sedan, I've yet to hear of any recall of this kind.Since I don't live where there is a lot of rain, I'm not all that concerned about a possible seal leak involving moisture. And I do have a second car just in case...

refer to honda service bulletin #07-055. see your dealer. it only refers to certain civic coupes and sedans from '06 and '07 model years.your wheels won't fall off until after you see the dealer!!!
