Default How do I get my 1989 Honda Accord Coupe to start?

Whenever I try to start my car it sounds like it is trying to turn over but it won't. I don't think it is getting gas. I have gas in it. What should I look for that may be causing it to not get any gas. It has fuel injection.

I have experienced problems like this before. I would look into the distributor as one possibility.

From your description it may not be gas . It may be the battery or starter .

First, Is the battery Okay? If the battery is dead or near dead, you will be able to crank the engine and then not hear anything but clicks as the starter solenoid engages or tries to engage. Can you get jump from someone with cables for the battery? If not that, try looking at your engine on top and make sure none of the spark plug wires have become disconnected or broken. if it's not gatting gas, perhaps you have blown fuel pump.

when you say turn over, do you mean crank? when you turn the key does it make a healthy, fast paced cranking sound or does nothing happen at all? If the cranking sound is slow and then it stops all together, or if you turn the key and nothing happens then it is probably the battery. If it cranks normally, but won't start, then it's most likely a fuel or spark problem and can't be diagnosed in a forum like this.

You can check if it getting gas by removing the gas line at the filter and turn the key. if it is getting gas then you check to see if has spark. Remove a spark plug and ground it to a good area on the engine. Have someone turn the key just for a sec. If you don't see spark, then check the coil. I just hold the wire off a good ground a half an inch and have someone turn the key for a sec. If it doesn't have good spark, replace it. If it does and the spark plug didn't then it's your cap and rotor. Check to see if theres corrosion on the rotor. It is easiest to replace The distributor cap because it could have a hairline crack you can't see. I would start with the cap and rotor and check the gas last. If the gas doesn't pump then you need a new fuel pump or check the fuse for it, you may get lucky. Hope this helps.good luck
