You don't "need" an intercooler to run a turbo, but it does help increase the power gains as it cools the intake air.Intercoolers aren't made for specific cars, you just need one that fit's your application.

yes, the intercooler makes the turbocharger run more efficiently. there are two types- water-to-air and the more popular air-to-air. pick the application that most fits you.

don't buy one from some one, its all in theory just like breaks. just get some piping and make friends with a exhaust shop, do your bends and throw it on, save you some cash, you will learn a lot more and while you are at it read " Maximum Boost" that's the turbocharging bible.

There are some repair work that's fit for DYI-er. Some other that are not. Turbo upgrades should be done by experienced speed shop. Besides the turbo, you need to do some work on your pistons (and compression ratio). Also your 93 Civic does NOT come with knock sensor (I own 94 Civic). Engine knock with turbo is sure way to completely destroy your engine. Any money you save doing it yourself, you would throw it out on engine damage repair.Find yourself a good speed shop and get it done right. This is coming from an experienced DYI-er who's done much repair works (I've even done clutch jobs on RWD and FWD cars). There much difference between remove and replace - repair job and engine tuning.Good Luck.
