They are great reliable cars. We had a 1990 prelude it took us everywhere from WI to NY, NH and MA.

My husband has a 1990 Prelude, he loves to baby it! New rims, tint, etc. It's over 215K, but still going great. Only thing that has come up lately is passing Emission tests in Ontario. It's failed and was advised to have the computer replaced, to which we have not found a replacement as of yet.

The 1991 Prelude was a great car. If it was maintained properly, it will continue to run for many more miles. Some things to double check is the when the timing belt was last changed and the CV axles. If the car has 4WS (4-wheel steering) check both the front and rear tie-rod ends.Since you are in the market for a Prelude, I would recommend looking for a 1992 - 1996 model. The Prelude had a major update in 1992 that gave it much more power and refinement.

I'm a Prelude 1992 4WS 2.3 L non-VTEC with about 120,000 miles (190,000 km) in Ontario, Canada. Just bough 2 years ago.It is a reliable car, manufacture in Japan. Higher QC (quality control), original part is more reliable than replacement part. However, new Honda replacement part is same quality or even design as original part back in 1992.Fuel consumption is about 20 mpg instead of the spec 22 mpg in city drive.Price depreciation is considerably low.Maintenance cost is about $1,000 on the first year, $600 on second year, and $300 on third year.I derived the maintenance cost from 2 years of repair cost by keeping the car at tip top condition. You may need to repair the components I repaired below:1. Rust at wheel well $6002. Rust at sunroof $6003. 4 brake rotor $200 (high priority)4. Front wheel axis $1005. Replace front axial boot $506. Flush coolant $507. Flush DOT 4 brake fluid $60 (high priority)8. Flush transmission oil $509. Flush engine oil $80 (high priority)10. Flush power steering oil $5011. Refill A/C coolant $60 (high priority)12. Replace transmission shift cable $200 (high priority)13. ABS sensor $300 (high priority or ABS doesn't work)14. Any lights $50 (high priority)15. Overall lubrication $50 (high priority)16. Catalytic converter $10017. Replace rusted exhaust pipe $200 (high priority)18. Muffler $150
