Default What is the difference between the D16 engine in my 2000 civic ex, and the B16 in the 2000 civic si?

I have watched videos of each on youtube and I have noticed that when they are both stock, there is not much of a power difference. I have a 2000 civic ex, and i wanted to do the civic si conversion. I am having problems deciding whether i should swap in a b16, or a h22. I am into more power. I do not want something that will get beat by other cars. (i am going to turbo either one)if anything, my swap will be done by a very known guy in SoCal (Los Angeles). he goes by the name JERRY BUILT. look up in youtube. or myspace. so complications will not matter. keep commenting to convince me though.

It has to do with how the vtech behaves. You would have to get an SI computer in order to even it out.

b 16 engine last longer than the h 22.reason being the b series is used in a lot more Honda lines and is a simpler in technology wise. but b has limitation and less horses than the h 22 bigger engine overall, more horses more power. but the b16 gives more performance and longer lasting turbo or no turbo.my final advise use b16 and rebuild from ground up.

There is a big difference between the 2 engines (as well as a big difference between both and the H22A). Don't let the price of the "complete swaps" of the B16A and the H22A. There are a few hidden costs of the H22A swap. For the H22A swap, you'll need an aftermarket mount kit. Also you'll need to upgrade your suspension to deal with the way the H22A will sit, it has nothing to do with weight, contrary to the false info floating around the net. You'll also have to do some wiring and cutting. Some wires need to be added about 7 wires, & wire in a resistor box to run the peak & hold injectors (different from your saturated stock injectors). You will also need to cut off your passenger side/transmission side mount bracket from the chassis for the new aftermarket one, as well as cut 2 holes for the shifter & shifter cables. With the H22A, if you go turbo, you will either have to replace the sleeves or find pistons that are compatible with the stock FRM sleeves. If you have the $, the H22A is the engine to beat other cars. If you have a moderate budget, just go with the B16A.

wow i don't think anyone truely answered your question. The main difference between the d series and b series is another cam. the d series is single overhead cam and the b series is double overhead cams. the b series will inherantly have and be more capable of power because it will be able to flow far more air because of the extra valves due to the camshaft. The vtec d series made 127hp and the vtec b16 makes 160hp so a good 33hp difference because of that extra cam.Next topic i would go with the b16 motor due to ease of installation. It will respond well to a turbo and plenty of swappablity with other b series motors and more aftermarket parts make the b16 a winner.
