Default Auto-work ripoff?

Being done to a '92 Honda accord @ a Honda dealerThe run down...1 Cap, 1 Rotor, 4 spark plugs, replace valve cover gasket, adjust idle, clean throttle body, plug seals, 4 wheel alignment, 4 wheel balance and rotation of tires....plus the diagnostics ...grand total of about $700.00 parts and labors.

at a honda dealer, that sounds about right, it is always rediculously expensive. You could save a lot by doing some of the work yourself and taking the alignment and balance to a tire shop.

$700.00 for all that is not a rip off. Cars cost money to maintain, And technicians put a whole lot of time to keep up with technology and they spend a huge amount of money on tools, So when you have a skill it costs money to put that skill to work for you. Try and do it yourself next time and see if its worth it to have a pro. do your work.

Remind me to never buy a Honda! On this year car I would think adjusting the idle would not be needed. As for cleaning the throttle body, I hope they used the right thing, if not you will need a throttle control valve soon. The major part of the bill must have been the diagnostics. For that price you could have bought a program and interface to diagnose it yourself.Did they see you coming or what?

OK, cap $12, Rotor $7, plugs $8, valve cover gasket $25, throttle body cleaning? free with a clean rag, idle adjustment free with the turn of a screw driver, Alignment $65 at a tire shop, rotation included in the alignment. So thats about $120 so they are charging you almost $600 for labor? RIP OFF, ALL dealers are ridiculous in prices like this. Look for a local shop and you could get it done for less than 1/2 the price.

So why did you bring the car in the first place, also you must authorize for work done, don't you?Any competent shop or mechanic should be able to work on this car. Also the labor per hour charge is prominently displayed at the dealer, around $100 an hour,so you had been warned.
