Default My 2001 Honda Odyssey gearshift is sticking?

and when I started to drive down the road, after getting it unstuck, the tcl and the check engine light came on. The tcl goes off when I start the car up but after driving it a few miles, it comes back on. The check engine light has stayed on.

you have two separate problems, one with the gearshift and the other with the check engine light.when the gearshift won't come out of park it indicates a problem with the shift interlock system. there is a tab on top of the housing between your steering wheel and the gauges that you can pop out and use as an emergency release when you can't get the lever out of park. You insert the key into the slot and then move the gearshift to Neutral to start the car. You'll probably find out that the problem that is causing the interlock system not to release is that the brake light switch is bad and your brake lights don't work. Nexxt time it happens, have someone see if the brake lights are working or not. chances are they are not and that you'll have to replace the switch.the second problem with the check engine light can be caused by any number of problems. On that car there are two extended warranties: one for the transmission and one for the EGR valve clogging. Both conditions will cause the check engine light to come on and the TCS light to illuminate. There is not a problem with the TCS system; the light comes on because of a problem with either of the other two causes that causes an engine misfire to be misinterpreted as the vehicle operating in traction control mode.take the vehicle to a Honda dealer and have them determine why the check engine light is on. Its almost certain that the check engine light problem will be fixed by Honda at no charge. As for the hard time getting the gearshift out of park, you can have them look into it but there is no warranty on that and you'd have to pay for that repair.hope that helps
