Default How do i fix a T.C.C. circuit malfunction in my 98 honda prelude? How seriouse is the problem?

The scanner is showing the codes-p0700(trany system malf.) and p0740(Torque Converter clutch circuit malfunction). What can i do about this problem?I greatly apreciate any help given.ThanksThe car is showing a problem such as delayed gear change. When it is on automatic and seq. shift. It will seem like it shifts but the rpm will continue to go up on that gear then it will finnally switch amd cause a jolt in the car. I hope these specific details can help norrow my problem.Any help is greatly apreciated. Thanks Again

Torque converter circuit malfunction can mean several things. First it can mean that the torque converter solenoid wire is shorted to ground (either in the tranmission case or on the body of the vehicle). Second it can mean that the torque converter solenoid itself is shorted. I don't know how technical you are but you can disconnect the main connector from your transmission and check for short to ground on your torque converter circuit. If there is no short to ground then the next step is to replace the torque converter solenoid which is inside the transmission. If you are not that technical then you should take it to the dealership. You might have a chaffed wire in your engine compartment in the torque converter circuit. Look for the wires carefully and if you don't see anything then goto the dealer. Hope this helps. It's not a serious problem in that your vehicle will stop on the freeway, but your fuel economy will suffer. Your torque converter basically locks up and gives you a better final drive ratio. I would get it taken care of. Worst case senario would be replacement of the entire transmission, but probability is low.
