Default Is it really worth the money and effort to install a LOUD muffler on a Honda Civic? WHY SHOUT

MEDIOCRITY? Is another 5-15 hp really going to make a difference? eg. IF I TYPE IN ALL CAPS, DOESN'T IT LOOK STUPID? Well, now you hear what I hear when I see a Civic driving by with a tail pipe as big as it's wheels!

The real question is: why shout stupidity?

I agree, I can't stand how those engines sound. It makes them sound cheap. Now put on an aftermarket muffler on a V-8 and that just sounds mean and dirty! A real engine. I think the rice rockets should put on a good muffler that quiets a sound a supercharger makes so that you hear the whine instead of brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrblahblah. Notice how they exert more sound than power?

everyone has their own styles, your just someone who lets other peoples sense of style get to you (i hate ricers too). but i just show them who's faster, then the noise doesent matter anymore

Installing a muffler DOES NOT INCREASE HP by 5-15 hp... whoever you heard that from is retarded. I agree that it is VERY stupid to only get a loud ass muffler just to be heard... its stupid. What does increase HP is installing a FULL catback exhaust that extends from the catalytic converter to the tip. Also, one can replace the headers or replace the catalytic converter with a test pipe. All these modifications will increase the sound of the exhaust, but will actually inscrease HP.15 hp increase is a very significant difference. But it will not come cheap.

It is not worth it. DON'T DO IT!!!!! It is stupid!!! And further more those 4-bangers need backpressure to get the most horses, so putting a huge muffler on 2.5' piping kills your power honestly it really does.

The loud muffler will actually rob you of horse power. Those little engines are designed to require exhaust back pressure. Unless you spent thousands of dollars at a race shop on the engine you will never need to tamper with the stock exhaust. Besides that, they sound terrible.

Mufflers DO NOT add power, or increase fuel economy at all. You will just annoy people, especially me since I have them roll up beside me then I open my eletric cut outs then open headers then there cars fall apart. Do you weally want this to happen to you?

They're called 'Resosance Chambers' or Fart Cannons. All they do is distort the sound the engine makes naturally, to make it sound beefier. They often sound like lawn mowers, or weed wackers. They do absolutely nothing for performance, possibly to annoy other drivers, and thus purge their concentration. Nothing more.
