I am 16 years old and from the UK. I will be turning 17 in november and getting a driving licence. I was offered a car from my step dad. It is a 1996 Honda Civic Coupe LSi in green/blue. It has a 1.5 litre engine, and although not very powerful, it is very desireble to steal. It might be important to mention here that it has an automatic transmission. Here is a picture of the same kind of car.http://www.auto.vl.ru/catalog_photos..._11787.jpgThis car has a sentimentle value and it is the first car I ever drove. I have tried online insurance sites to see how much it would be to insure. All the prices are very high. I just wanted some advice on how to insure this car cheap. Or at least cheaper then the quotes I have been getting. I am willing to keep it in a garage, it has an alarm and I will use a steering lock, but the quotes are still expensive..Thanks for any help I get,

Unfortunately most of your quotes are more than likely based on your age rather than the "desireability" of the car to thieves. Go online and shop around for insurance. Or maybe your parents can add you onto their policy. It should be cheaper that way.

HOnestly......it all depends where you are gonna live, or store the car......for example i have a 2001 integra....i used to live in NJ, one of the most stolen cars area in the country= my insurance for only liability was almost $400 a MONTH.....WTF....but then i moved to Hawaii with the same car and now i pay $200 for 6 months.... back to answer your question,, is the sentimentle value you give this car worth the quote?.. cuase even with insurance you may not get the same car back if too damaged if it were stolen or something...tell the insurance company what they wanna hear...like you will never drive it or you only go to school and back and it will be garage stored and so on.....and you can raise you deductible if you want lower payments, meaning if there were damage to the vehicle you shell out X amount...ie if it were $1000, then your ins. is cheaper vs. if you carried a 250 deduct....

I don't know if I really can help, but I will try. My problem is that you don't live in the US, so I don't know if one of our companies will insure you.If your dad or mom was a member of the US armed forces or a US government employee, you could join my company, USAA (United Services Auto Association) which began by 2 American Army officers insuring each other shortly before WWII. I don't know if they would insure non-Americans, but I do know that they do cover US service personnel when they are out of the US. You can check their website at www.usaa.com to see if you qualify. There was only one time that they didn't pay a claim I sent to them and that was because the damage was less than my deductible. They have proven to be the most reliable and mostly the cheapest I have had since I signed with them in 1977, though a couple times I strayed from them to get a cheaper premium, but paid for it with crummy service from the other companies. In addition, I have a policy from them covering my home and an account at the USAA Federal Savings Bank, which takes care of my financial matters like funding the loan for my car. They have a wide variety of services you can get, but I'm afraid that you might not qualify for them.
