i dont think you can just drop and engine in your car you will have to get a new transmisson and new axles and up grade your ecu this is ture becuse if your just drop an engine in your car it could break your axles and it might not fit your trans becuse your probaly gunna put a bit of a bigger engine in your car. please whatever your do dont put a b16 in there every one around my way has done it get a b18 thats the intgera engine it has like 170 hp something like that. good luck with what your doing

or if u want to get faster then a b18 thats gonna cost u over 3g's with the tranny, get a d16z6 sohc vtec with tranny gonna cost around 600 ive seen them for that price even a lil cheaper, has 135 hp, upgrade the engine a lil and add a turbo. all for less then a b18 its self, and a bit faster......i dont know if the 97 dx has the 1.6 non vtec or the 1.5 non vtec but if its the 1.6 u mite be able to keep your tranny......

Unless you want to change stuff the same motor is all you can put in the car. The tranny is very weak and can only handle the non-VTEC engine. My suggestion would be to invest in a B16A swap. Yes it will be about $2,500 in the motor/parts/and labor. BUT you will be going from 92 HP at the wheels to 142 HP at the wheels with the added bonus of VTEC. As for the guy saying something about the D16Z6, that is a OBD1 motor and your car is OBD2, therefor it would cost more in the long run than to do the B16 swap.

Yes you can, in your car, you have a D16Y7. For your car, I would go with a D16Y8. they came out of all 1996-2000 honda civic ex. Everything would be a complete bolt on swap, no need to change tranny, or axles. You could get away with not changing the ecu but I don't advise it. There is always someone needing money severely and they have the part. It would be a really nice power upgrade and you would only need to add two wires to your ecu for vtec........or run the stock ecu without vtec, it wouldn't hurt your car.

um well lets see so you want to keep your dx tranny, then theres not point of swaping. Since not other motor other then Ds will work and ECU too serious so want dont you swap a D16Y7 wait thats the motor you have. Be honest I can go on on rip you a new one. But since I not as made as I was 15mins ago I give you a quick answer switch out ur trans mission to 96-00 EX SOHC vtec tranns mission keep ur ECU biggest note of performance, and then change your Intake manifold with a D16Y8 EX intake manifold that neted Turbo magaizne 10whp.
