My dad has been fixing and swapping engine for project cars for a long long time....... over 30+ years... and now he is working on a project car for me... he said that he was going to swap my 1990 Honda civic si engine(D16) with the Skyline R31 engine(RB20DET) first thing i thought, was that possible?will the car even have traction? will that engine even fit in a 1990 honda civic si? he tells me anything is possible if you put your mind to it

skylines have transmissions and civics have transaxles technically speaking, so there are some problems. Is he going to make the civic a rear wheel drive car? its a lot or work, and if hes planing to some how use some type of transaxle to keep the car front wheel driver it would not be worth it for numerous reasons. Im not a civic guy but the power you can make from those motors exceeds what traction you can get. If hes planing on making the car a rear wheel drive civic which is my guess using that motor then I believe it maybe worth it, if you love civics. But if you add up the work + time + money it would also be much more worth it to build up a lot of other cars that are already set up in awd or rwd rather then doing that. The amount of work is actually pretty ridiculous, and im not questing what he can and cant do because I do not know anything about your dad. All im saying is that even if he has all the skills the amount of time in the work is going to be crazy, not something you can throw together in a weekend or two. If you have any more info on it I might be able to say more, but thats my 2 cents on it. Good luck...

you will probably have to do a rear wheel conversion due to the transmission size and motor size.. a transaxel setup will not work... I suggest not doin the R34 in a SI... I suggest taking out the D16 and swapping in a K20 turbo or a b16c1 turbo... if you do by some stroke of luck get the R34 to A) fit and B) run in a rear wheel conversion... 80% of the weight of the car will be in the front half... good luck steering... and IF it works the cars suspension will need to be heavily modded to get that power to the ground.. a TTR34 will give you around 500+ hp... thus making a 2200lb car not have the spring back to get the rubber in the road... as I said before, if you want power with some more simplicity... the K20 turbo, and GSR turbo... that should give you your fix
