My SRS light came on. How do I find out if this is a recall or just something with my car. Is it expensive to get fixed? I have a 2000 Honda Accord EX

Hmmm... I have the 97 Accord Ex and to my knowledge, the SRS light is the visual feedback sensor from your airbag system. Essentially, it is supposed to come on when you start the car, remain on for 6 - 8 seconds then go off when your airbag system is primed.If your sensor light is not turning off, then you have one of two problems. Either a small electrical problem with the sensor (cost approx $50 to repair, non-critical, takes about 1 hour to check & fix) or the much more costly problem with your airbag system (which takes a Honda Certified Technician only and may cost up to $10,000.00 to replace your airbag system... which your insurance will tell you to replace the car then as it cannot be insured without your airbag system...)It is actually not a recall issue, as there was no defect with the model for that year or an other when it had an airbag system installed. Best suggestion, take it to your personal mechanic (preferably one that does not work for Honda directly) and have them look at the sensor system/electrics. If he/she can find the fault, it's a quick fix and you are done. If not, contact Honda and tell them there is a problem with your airbag system. Then you will have to tell them to replace your airbag system, or replace the car. You will then have a long wait and several more calls (over a 3 - 6 month period) and take the time to track down the manager responsible for dealing with safety issues (don't bother with the dealership, they can't/won't do anything) for which country you are in. Make an appointment to see only that person, and do not let someone else deal with you. Talk to this person, tell them the problem, tell them you want a simple solution, replace your airbag safety system, or replace the whole car.

there is a warranty extension on the Occupant Presence Detection Sensor that is the usual cause of that SRS light on that model. The warranty has been extended to 10 years or 150,000 miles. the second most common cause is the switch in the seat belt buckle. Honda has a lifetime warranty on the seat belts on that car.my advise is to take it to a Honda dealer for diagnosis. Its almost certain that, provided the car hasn't been in an accident, that the repairs will be covered under one or both of the warranties at no charge to you. If its not then the dealer can tell you what it is thats causing the light to come on and what it would cost to fix it, but the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor of getting it fixed at no cost through Honda.hope that answers your question

I had the same thing happen to my '01 Accord. The seat belt buckle was replaced at no cost and the light went away. Honda seems to have lifetime warranties on SRS components including seat belts and the like. I took my car to a Honda dealer and the part arrived within 2 days for the repair.

its either a 9-3 seat belt code or a 15-3 OPDS code the seat belts free but the OPDS is only until 120,000 miles

You need your seat belt buckle replaced call your honda dealer and they'll replace it at no cost.
