Default my 2007 Honda civic has a sensor that some how knows what my oil life is. I have

driven over 4000 miles and.. It says my oil life is 60%. Can i trust it?

If you use synthetic it just might be telling the truth. Newer cars can get 10,000 miles out of synthetic oil.

Yeah I would trust it. Your car is brand new. 3000 miles is just a suggestion. Wear and tear on the vehicle varies.

I'd do the oil change every 3000 miles. They say up to 5000 is ok, but it all depends on how you drive the car. If you drive 3000 miles within 3 months I recommend doing it every 3000. You should be able to trust the sensor, but better safe than sorry.

I have a Caddy with the same gizmo. Look in your owner's manual and follow recommended changes for the way you drive. I know the gizmo is supposed to do that but I once followed it's recommendations and ended up with 7000 miles of in town driving before it recommended a change. Never again ! Good luck !

It is usually pretty accurate. I think sometimes they want to have people run the vehicles longer without oil changes to get them to wear out faster, but that is my opinion.

it depends on what kind of oil you use. Many synthetic oils can go for about 4,000-5,000 miles before you need another oil change. The one I use is actually good for 7,500 miles between oil changes. If you use nonsynthetic, it is generally recommended to get it changed every 3,000 miles.I'd go see the mechanic asap if I was you. It's much better to be safe than sorry. But I worry about those new technological changes, especially on newer cars...I feel there arer too many recalls with new cars to risk chancing anything.

i had a 2006 honda pilot, and when i took it to the dealer for an oil change at 3000 miles (bought it brand new), they said that it wasn't necessary with a honda to change it until the car was at about 10%. they said that now, it depends on engine rotations and how you drive your car. if you drive it hard and rev the engine up all the time, it could be at 3k miles, but if you take it easy, it could be 8 or 9k miles. trust it. they are making oil better now, and cars better now.
