How does an alarm system from Honda Odyssey EX work? The reason I ask is that the spec said that it came with an alarm but when I go to the dealer, they are telling me that the manufacturer installed system is only basic and is recommending that I upgrade to a KARR system. Thanks!

I don't know what my mom has in her car, but it's like..if you lock the car and you're sitting in it, and then you unlock it from the inside, the alarm goes off. It scared the mess out of us. But at least you (and everyone in the county) knows your alarm system works!

I don't know what year your Odyssey is but if it is a newer model (2003 and up) then the only thing the Karr alarm gives you is a vibration sensor that causes their alarm to go off when the car is parked and whenever a heavy truck goes by on the road. other than that, you're not getting anything above what the factory has installed. The Odyssey comes with a keyless remote that has a security alarm that will go off if a door is opened without first unlocking the car with a key or with the remote. In addition, the new models have an Immobilizer system that will not allow the car to start without the programmed key being used. And, the factory remotes have a panic mode on them that is not on the Karr alarm.I wouldn't spend the money on the Karr system. If you're concerned about additional security, a Lo-Jack tracking system for stolen cars is the way to go, but the only way the car can be stolen with the factory system is for someone to tow it away.hope that answers your question
