Default 98 Honda Civic - Good Deal or Bad Deal?

I'm looking at buying a 98 Honda Civic Hatchback 2 Door DX. It has almost 250 000 km but the body is in great shape. The seller is asking $4000 CND. Do you think this is a good deal? I am looking for a car that will last me about two years. At that point I will have enough money to buy a newer car. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Look under the car, and look close. I had 3 of them and they all rotted out underneath. Rendered them unsafe for the road. The DX is the model I had problems with

We've got similar problems in buying cars. mine is only 47000 km and 131000 km, but yours is almost 250000 km. Its nice to have car with a great shape but you need to consider the after sales like warranty. Do you think you are not going to spend on that car within 2 years? My first car is 120000 miles old about 1930000 km new interior, new alloy wheels, nice body shape and metallic paint. First 3 months the car is in good condition and after that it starts giving me problem. That's why i am still waiting for someone to answer my questions about the 47000 and 131000 km old. and yours is 250000km so you need to think as you didn't mention about the under-chassis. Its better to consider buying cars in a dealer than a private. It is more expensive but without nightmare.

$4,000 for a nearly 10 year old car, with that much mileage on it isn't a very good deal...I paid half that for a LeBaron convertible two years ago, with half that mileage! If it were my money, I'd keep shopping, or make a counter offer MUCH lower, because at the mileage that's showing on that car, things are going to start breaking.

hondas are virtually bulletproof if you can keep simple maintenance. but this vehicle is almost ten years old and the mileage is indeed very high. although i doubt you will have engine trouble, at that mileage usually the ac compressor gives out as well as the alternator. if you are interested i will sell you mine for 4000 bucks. ( i want some mods for my S2000). it is a 1998 honda civic LX 118,412 miles exact, just did a full tune-up. i will give you a 3 month warranty on everything. Just contact me if you live in the alabama area.
