Default My son wants me to buy a 91 Honda Accord 2-dr 4-cyl 5-speed. It has a lot of recent work and is...

...in good shape The only other Honda I ever owned was a lemon, and I'd really like to have another Buick, but with gas prices still being high, I am tempted to buy it, just to save money on gas. Any ideas? It belongs to someone at my son's job. They want $1800 for it.

I have a 1990 Honda Accord. Love it. It have 150000 miles on it and it runs great. As long as your son does the regular maintenace (oil, timing belt etc) and takes decent care of it that care will run for a long time. Don't let one bad car discourage you. most car experts will tell you that Hodas are very reliable.good luck$1800 is too high though... the car is 17 yrs old. The engine will run for ages but you'll probably have bits and pieces of electrics and other stuff to deal with over the next year or so. as you would with any car that old. i'd pay nomore than 1300-1500 tops

A 91 Honda is going to be a money pit. As they all are. Saving money on gas is not going to do you any good if the car is in the repair shop all the time. Buy a Buick you will much happier. The son wants the Honda because he doesn't know any better just like all kids his age. He will just want to turn it into a ricer car anyways. Who's car is it? Your or his?

Honda typically make pretty reliable vehicles. (Some transmission issues, but engine tends to be solid). However, the car is 16 years old. Doesn't matter if there was a lot of work done on it, just goes to show you all the problems that it was having. I'm sure there are some parts on the vehicle that are 16 years old and probably ready to go. Unless you're getting a bargin (and you don't say how much it costs). (ie under $1000) I'd probably pass.

I love Honda's and drive an Accord - but I would not pay $1800 for a nearly 17 year old one unless the mileage was exceptionally low.My 2 cents

The Honda lemon you had was a mistake. Honda engines are really good and can last for a long time. But if you consider to buy the car, ask the owner about the previous issues just incase it happens again.

it depends on how many milage and the condition of the car is for $1800 but other than that, honda's are awesome cars, very reliable, easy on gas, and take tons of beatings.
