Default Is the honda dealership service dept a rip off for service?

They charge 79 just to check your brakes, and I'm not even sure what they would charge for a tune up but I have n 06 Civic with 27k that I haven't taken to have a tune up yet. What would you suggest? I don't want to be ripped off.

79 dollars would be there diagnostic charge , which if you do the repairs they would just charge you for the repair cost only. as far as a tune up you should not need actual spark plugs yet i think they are plat (60k) possibly iridium (100k) you have alot of miles left for them. but you will be coming up for a 30k service. ive worked in the service dept at toyota and honda for 13years. it is a good service to do. a well maintained car will run great for years to come.

the service for cars like honda is very expensive because they don't break down as much as other cars so they need to make their money that way one of my friends used to work for them and thats what he says I took my accord there a few months ago to get the 30,000 check up got my wheels balancedand alligned and new brake pads in the rear came to a total or $800.00 the worst part was I could've done it all myself but I really needed to get it done and I wasn't going to have the equipment available for another month if I were you I'd find a good mechanic who will do it for cheaper

Dealerships charge a premium for service. No reason to pay a premium. Try and find an independent garage. See if you can get some recommendations.

I agree with Raul21. I have owned my current Honda for 10 years. Had another one prior for seven years. Find yourself a reputable mechanic. I did, which was very close to the Honda dealership. I tell you it's all Honda's in at this shop. They are the little guys with the knowledge of the best of them. They have to try a little harder but boy do they do good work. Good Luck!
