Why would you want to start in 5th gear? Anyway if you are racing someone it is best to start in 1st gear and move through them as needed. Practise a bit and feel when the engine is losing optimum power then shift to the next gear. You can start out in 5th but you have to play with the clutch and be very gentle. I don't recommend you do this if you want to win the race.

Okay, so what you should do is go get your funeral planned.A friend of mine past away on Saturday July 1st (Canada Day) because he was racing with his Honda Civic SI and it's young folks like you who are starting to die early from stupidity. By the way, it's not about speed, it's all about the ride.- Jonathan C

OK dumb ass. I have the same car (don't know what yr you have) but no, starting in fifth gear would be dumb unless you started on a huge down hill slope. You want to start in first because it will give you the most umph to take off with. its the most powerful gear (its made to get that big car rollin) then from there your other gears come in use because they still accelerate the car, but they can do it at lower rmps because the car is already movin. so start in first and get all you can get out of it (yes, come close to red linein it) and then do the same for the next gear. BUT, the gears after that are different. You just have to get a feel for them. When I race mine I usually get out of 3rd and into 4th at about 5000rpms. Just practice on the accel ramps on the interstate. (or at the track if you don't mind gettin laughed at when you stall out or grind the gears. lol) GL

No you put it in gear 1. And rev on the gas to 2500 RPM any more and you'll burn out. hold the gas at 2500rpm and step all the way on the clutch. when you get the signal to go floor the gas and let go of the clutch. when the rpm reachs the redline shift to 2nd gear. same with third. make sure the rpm does not go pass the redline.
