Default Whats wrong with my thermostat?

I drive a 1995 1.3(petrol) Honda civic HB. The temp always stays 1/4 up the gauge on normal city driving, however when on the expressway or motorway, the temp goes up to 3/4s of the gauge or even higher esp when my speed hovers between 60-70 mph. and it goes down if i reduce my speed. is this normal? or does my thermostat needs replacing?

Sounds more like the transmission to me. If you are stuck in a lower gear the RPMs could go way high and cause excess heat.Good Luck

I would recommend you drain the radiator, remove the thermostate then flush the cooling system and install a new thermostate and new coolant. no more than it would cost I would also recommend replacing the radiator cap

Its a cheap job & one u can do yourself if you have the car manual........I just wonder if this could be connected to the air intake setting, I seem to recall older cars had a manual setting near the air intake for summer / winter.....it just might be worth eliminating as its so simple to change
