Default Intake on a civic?

Got a 93 Civic DX and am looking to put an new intake on it. Which is better: Ram Intake, Cold Air Intake or Warm Air Intake, also which is a good brand, and how hard are they to install could I do it or should a professional do it?

Go with the cold-air. The intake tract will be a little longer because of the extra tubing needer to get to the cool air so you will lose a little on the throtle response but you will see more torque across the rev range with a cold-air. Reason is that the cooler the air, the more dense it is, ergo the more fuel can be burnt=more power

get an AEM short ram. cold air intake could suck up water if you go through water.... also short ram is easier to install. I have an AEm short on my accord

a CAI (cold air intake) would be the best. this displaces the intake filter outside of the engine bay (inside the front bumper) to get cooler air into the engine. the short ram works the same way, however the air filter is still inside the engine bay (so it basically removes the big ugly black airfilter box). as far as performance gains, the CAI is the best. I've never heard of a "warm air intake"...basically that would just be stock. AEM is one of the best manufacturers, injien also makes a good product, however its harder to install. You should be able to find DIY intake install on a honda forum. it should take you about an hour. not worth having a professional do if you have just basic mechanical skills.

Go with AEM's cold air intake. As mentioned, you'll see the greatest gains since it's sucking cooler/denser air from outside of the hot engine compartment. Go with the V2 version of AEM's product if available for your car. AEM's V2 CAI version uses a resonance tuning feature that produces a very mild supercharging effect...basically the same 'Variable Volume Induction' (aka VVI) concept employed in cars like the ACURA NSX, TL, MDX, & RL. VVI is the induction counterpart to how tuned headers work with exhaust systems...resonance tuning.A couple-three other things...I would not expect to see more than 3-4 added HP from CAI in a '93 DX engine. Best results will be had if you also add performance exhaust...either axle-back or cat-back system will free-up added power, helping your engine to breath & flow more efficiently...you'll also see slight gains in fuel economy, but at expense of added noise. The AEM CAI offers a special accessory valve for their CAI systems that protects your engine from water induced lock should you enter a very deep puddle. This issue rarely becomes a problem unless you plan on driving in deep water.

I would perfer the AEM V2 Intake because you can get at least 8-10 HP guaranteed. But that thing cost like 200 dollars. So you can try anyother brand as long as it is a cold air you would get more of a kick in the car. Also I suggest you get a bypass valve also. This would prevent water from getting into the engine and thus saving you alot of money. Putting in the intake is as easy as peeling a banana. Take off the old one and attach the intake to the intake manifold and tighten that part. for a cold air intake it would be a llittle harder because you have to take off more things. But this is how to install a short ram intake. Like i said before take off the old one install the intake to the manifold then clamp it down. Install the air filter to the end pipe and clam that down and then lastly get a small tube that would fit that small sticking out part from the valve head and connect it to that to the intake. There should be some thing sticking out of the intake. well hope that helps.
