Default my honda civic 92 has manual transmission. it makes a noise when i shift it to reverse i

wonder why.? when iam changing gear sometimes it's not smooth enough, i wonder if i need to lubricate the shifter. i was thinking about installing a short shifter. any advice?

if its a "crunch" type sound, a lot of cars do that due to the type of gearing the reverse is...something about spline gears vs another type of gear, i forget the details. Make sure the RPMS are at idle and shift slowly into reverse..feel it click into gear and don't force it.

Most cars don't have a syncro for the reverse gear, hence the grinding noise.

This is common on all Hondas does it make the same sound when you shift into 3rd gear. If so it could be your tranny needs a rebuild. On the short shifer I ask for you to reconsider just because its a short shifter dosent mean it has a shorter throw. google.com fastline performance shifters. I used them many times great company.

The clunk in reverse is normal. As far as not smooth shifting it's possible that your clutch is wearing out. How many miles are on the car? Has the clutch ever been replaced?
