It refers to variable valve timing. This changes the degree angle of your valves(cam shaft) to give you a more even hp/torque curve. Instead of having very little hp/torque around 1,000-2,000 rpm and then a little more and a little more unti you reach 6,000 where you would probably have the most.

Its "Vtec" not Vtech like a telephone.VTEC is an acronym for Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control. VTEC is a valve train system developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a 4-stroke internal combustion engine. This system uses two camshaft profiles and electronically selects between the profiles. This was the first system of its kind.

Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. "V-Tec" is a misnomer. As the engine moves into different rpm ranges, the engine's computer can activate alternate lobes on the camshaft and change the cam's timing. In this way, the engine gets the best features of low-speed and high-speed camshafts in the same engine

all answers here are correct, but im gona put it in simple english for you.it gives you more high end power in your honda once the revs are above 5,000rpm (i think its 5,000 lol or something around that) all in all it means your car maintains its driveability at low speeds (e.g around town or in traffic) but has that extra power when you really want to floor it!
