Start with the basics and check the trans fluid level.....

I'm having the same issue. My honda accord is a 96, I'm going to guess that its about the same. If the D4 light is flashing it means that there's something wrong with the transmission of your car. The first thing you want to do is get the transmission fluid changed, that may fix your problem. If not then you want to take it to a transmission specialist. You might need the transmission rebuilt or a brand new transmission. A new transmission is expensive!! Mines is being rebuilt right now. Its costing me about $700. Hope this helps!!

this sounds bad,sounds to me like your overdrive is Kaput,drive it in D3 until you can get it to a garage to be varified,this could save you a little money on internal parts,if not yet fubar,if it keeps slipping in D4 it will burn out the internal clutches and burn up the drum,and you don't want all that crap.floating around in there,a rebuild should take care of it hopefully,a newby is prett pricey
