Depends. Are you in Southern California and you have a commute that consists of sitting in over an hour's worth of traffic everyday? Possibly, because you'll save fuel and save time in the carpool lane. Other than that, no. It's not worth the extra cash.

In my opinion you would be better off with the gas only version. I work at a big Honda dealer in Minneapolis, MN and the people buying the Hybrids are not doing it for the fuel economy - they are doing it for the bragging rights. My 2007 Civic Sedan LX get's about 36 on the highway, my Accord V6 get's about 30.Plus, I think the Hybrid technology is more of a band-aid then a solution. Honda has been working on true alternative fuel vehicles. Watch for the worlds first production hydrogen passanger vehicle from Honda in the next few years.

The answer to that will depend on how much you drive it. For a ballpark figure, say 10,000 to 12,000 miles per year, you'd probably have to drive it at least 8-9 years in order to break even on the extra price premium (and the Civic hybrid actually has one of the lower hybrid premiums of cars on the market today). If you're a traveling salesperson and have a long commute, you would probably have a shorter break even cost duration. Future New York City taxis will be hybrids, and that is one application where having hybrids can really pay off not only in cost, but in terms of lower emissions.
