Default 2003 Accord v6 transmission problems?

I have a 1998 accord v6 and I am looking @ the 2003 and 2004 v6 accords, but I heard they have transmission problems. My 98 accord transmisson had to be replaced and I do not want to go through that again! Anybody know about the 03-04 transmissions?I saw that there was a recall on the 2003-2004 transmissions like there was on the late 90's early 00' models. I clicked on "recalls" on this website below and I saw it on a few others as well...http://www.cars.com/go/recalls/rclMa...s&aff=national

The '03 and '04 transmissions were rated excellent. Only transmission problems existed in the late 90's and the 2000 model.

False, there were issues on the 2003-2004 V6 as well. My brother has a 2003 V6 that has already had the tranny replaced by Honda. It seems to be a problem with the Hondas that are based on the V6 Accord (ie. Odyssey, Pilot, Acura TL). 2005 was the first year that they've ever made a V6 Accord, since it was introduced in 1995, that it didn't have tranny issues. Only time will tell.

Yes they did have some problems at first. Just make sure the car had the recall performed early in its life (mileage). The recall fixed the possible problem. I recall the 4 cylinder cars having more problems than the V6. I personally would not be worried at all about this, the problem with your 98 was a completely different problem. I would definetly drive the 2003-2004 accord before purchasing one, they handle and drive very differently than your 98. They are still great cars and most owners like the feel of the newer accord better.

I cannot speak for all hondas, but I just had to have my entire transmission replaced after it failed completely. This was on a 2003 honda accord V6 with 42,000 miles on it. Thankfully Honda replaced it at no cost to me, even though the warranty had expired.

heavy foot= more wear/ softer foot= more life. Heat/ fluid condition both contribute to life or death. Unless you buy it new you don't know.

Default Re: 2003 Accord v6 transmission problems?

I was wondering if anybody out there has the same problems I'm having with my 2003 Accord EX V6 Sedan. When I'm driving between 20-40 mph my engine stalls, all it does is revs the RPM high and the car doen't go anywhere, so what I normally do is let the gas go so the RPM can go back down to about 1,500 RPM and then I would slowly step on the gas and then my car would switch into gear. Sometimes I would have to start at a stand still on second gear and then rev the RPM until it reaches 5,000 RPM or 40 mph and then switch it into "D". I have spent all kinds of money diagnosting it, mechanics told me it can be a solenoid issue, So I bought the Linear solenoid but that didn't work, I was told I might need to do a Transmission Fluid Flush and that didn't work and finally I took it to the Honda Dealership here in Fresno, California and they told me it could be an eletrical internal component part, or it could be the wrong computer part or damaged computer, but however they advised me to just get a whole new transmission for about $4660 including labor. Is there anybody having the luck I'm having out there please let me know, give me some info on what's my best options or does anybody know where I can get this tranny for a reasonable price? You can also email me at donkhamchanh@hotmail.com
Thank You

Angry Re: 2003 Accord v6 transmission problems?

I bought a new 2003 V6 Accord. The car has been driven lightly and serviced regularly, but it started having problems in early '07. It started with the traction control light going on and off and the car pulling hard to the side when I would accelerate suddenly - as in passing. The Honda dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it and told me to change the transmission fluid. Fortunately for me, I let the Honda dealership change the fluid. As soon as I tried to drive my car the transmission went crazy, and I never made it off the lot. I had gotten the extended warranty (Thank God!) and they put a rebuilt transmission in it. That transmission was working just fine until a few months ago when the traction control light started coming on again. Yesterday, as I was trying to get on the interstate, the transmission slipped and the car shook violently. Fortunately, it went back into gear but I am taking it back into the dealership where I will have to argue with them again that the transmission is bad!! What a nightmare!

Default Re: 2003 Accord v6 transmission problems?

Hi - My 2003 Accord EX has 113,000 miles and I am having the same issue as Odon76, gear slippage between 2nd and 3rd gears (currently occurs only when accelerating aggressively, approx 4500+ rpm). Previous owner already had the oil jet kit installed as recommended by the recall as seen here (see power train: automatic transmission, safety recall: Accord v6 Automatic Transmission Second Gear Inspection). After visiting a dealership I was told that because my tranny had not "locked up" while driving that I was not eligible for this recall. The analysis performed at this dealership showed that my transmission fluid was all burned out (dark brown/black) indicating a loss in viscosity which had caused damage to the bearings which caused damage to the clutch. They also told me that my transmission fluid was overfilled and this was a potential cause of this failure. They also said that because I live in Atlanta, Ga I should be servicing the car with the "Extreme weather conditions" service plan in the manual. The extreme maintenance schedule calls for transmission fluid replacement every 30,000 miles, however, the normal conditions service schedule calls for replacement at 120,000 miles. Upon further investigation, I was told by American Honda customer service that because the oil jet was already installed I am no longer eligible to receive any further help from Honda for this issue.

I am still hoping that I can find a way for Honda to subsidize my transmission replacement. My ears are open to any advice on how to get Honda to help me out or worst case, best options for tranny replacement (rebuilt, used, or new). Dealership quoted new auto tranny for $3693.35 ($2355.95 parts, $1164.24 labor, $30.00 misc, $143.16 tax)
