no not true you should tell that dealer to kiss ur a**. dealers have both the msrp and the invoice and know that they can always drop below the msrp because the invoice is the true cost of the car. this dealer just wants to make money. any dealer that says this to you walk away immediatly. u dont walk into a dealer to serve sales associates they work there to serve you and any dealer who doesn't want to earn ur business is not worth it. cross shop and def go in with proof and knowledge that u know the invoice and tell them bottom line u know what the invoice is and if they want a deal then and there theyll work with you. and just because a cars parts are straight outta japan and its in high demand doesnt mean anything. theres always room to work. and be very weary of dealer installed options. that is where they really jack u. ps. u should also look into other vehicles in this category and weigh ur needs for example the nissan rogue is a much better ute. not to mention the new santa fe and that comes with a v6. shop around

I work at a car dealership, and this dealership seems to be trying to pull a fast one on you. Even if there is a high demand on the CR-V, it doesn't mean that they should be selling them without any discount. You won't be able to get it for $500 above invoice like other vehicles, but there is no way that you should be paying sticker for it. The demand for the CR-V wasn't as high as anticipated after the new body style was released, so the dealership may be trying to make up for that as well. The only cars where you actually pay the sticker or above are high end vehicles such as Bugatti's, Ferrari's, etc.

That's a mark up the dealers decided to add to the price because there is a high demand and the people will pay it. It has nothing to do with the place of origin because this year is the first year that the CR-V is made here in the U.S. The last generation was made in England and Japan while the one before that one was made in Japan. Dealers are just trying to rip you off. Next year, you won't see the market value price because by that time supply should meet demand.
