...long-term quality? Do you people hate America or Just like being part of the problem??The Ford F-150 also received the BEST quality for any single vehichle in the world!

To tell you the truth, I believe that GM would still be number 1 if they weren't so stupid and reorganized all the branches of cars they own. It was financial suicide. They never changed...that's what killed them. Some of their models have been there forever. How can you say that people hate America if America is supposed be a free market economy where competition is the king? It's business, companies that screw up go under, no matter if they're American or not. Deal with it.

Good for Cadillac, Buick, Lincoln & Mercury! Quite frankly, I don't have much faith in JP Power because I've never heard of it. I have more respect for J.D. Power & Associates. Are you the head of JP Power (Japanese Power)? It's not all about long-term quality. It's also about style, performance, safety, etc.By the way, many Big 3 cars and trucks are assembled by Canadians and Mexicans, while many Japanese-brand cars are assembled by fellow Americans. In a free market economy, business decisions are affected by the competition and supply and demand. Every company examines its strengths and weaknesses, and analyzes its opportunities and threats. Competition is healthy, because in the end, consumers win and innovations are continuously made to appeal to the consumers. It's not about America, it's about cars.

JD Power must have made a mistake. Ask any mechanic that works with a variety of cars and they will tell you differently. Even Consumer Reports and Edmunds disagree with that. Do you really believe that most people will admit that they invested in a piece of crap? Most domestic car owners would buy them if they ran on one cylinder and had excessive oil leaks (Buicks seem to be pretty reliable though). Many of the popular domestic brand cars aren't even made in the U.S. They're usually made in Mexico, Brazil, Canada or somewhere else. Almost every Honda or Toyota sold here is built here. Most are even classified as domestic cars because even the outsourcing of parts to build them are here in the U.S. Most bigoted American car owners won't buy a Japanese brand name when they actually bring more jobs to our country than Ford or GM. I say bigots because they don't speak out against European brands in the same fashion. Those aren't U.S brands and they never want to be. Yes the Germans have a couple of smaller plants here but the bulk of them are made in Germany. Even VW left the U.S. because of quality problems at it's plant. Heck, their Mexico plant has problems but no where near the problems they had here. The F150 does not have the BEST quality of any single vehicle in the world. Each redesign brings massive recalls and they continue to have brake problems. The Toyota Camry has been redesigned more times than the F150 and it doesn't have recall problems. Why is that? I'll admit that the U.S. brands make pretty good trucks but most of their cars are pretty lousy. Part of the problem is that while the U.S. makers look at profits, the Japanese and Europeans focus more on market share. Trucks are cheaper to build than cars yet they cost more. U.S car makers focused more on the R&D of their trucks than on their cars and they lost a lot of their market share because of it. The imports only have their quality to depend on. If they weren't better, noone would buy them. On another note: Have you seen the resale value on a U.S. brand car? Now compare a Cadillac or Lincoln resale value with the resale value of a comparably priced Lexus or BMW. Even a Corvette (which is an impressive car by the way) has a poor resale value in comparison to the imports. I love my country bought I don't believe that I should take pride in a product that doesn't have pride behind it (thanks to the obsolete UAW)- regardless of who makes it. Blind allegiance is stupidity.

Terrence's answer 'nailed it'...I'm as red, white & blue as they come, but I'm also a believer in the 'marketplace'...the American automotive industry has been in the 'mud' in the marketplace for a very long time.First off, the JD Power ranking (if true) is most deceptive. Every other ranking & by every reasonable standard, shows the 1st tier Japanese auto makers (Toyota & Honda & their luxury brands) to consistently rank at the top of the list. And the 'proof of the pudding' is how well they sell, and how well they hold their resale value! There is an underlying reason why GM, FORD, and CHRYSLER are struggling, shutting down plants & laying off tens of thousands of workers (most unfortunate). The fundamental problem is that the American automotive business model is an inferior business model...compared to the Honda & Toyota's. Consider Honda for example... Honda is an engineering-centric company that abides by their mantra, "Honda, The Power of Dreams". They have a very strategic, long-term perspective in how they develop their vehicles. They afford the maximum empowerment of their employees to innovate & to do the right thing. Unfortunately, America's stregnth has become it's weakness. Quarterly Wall Street earnings dictate who does what. The Big 3 (US auto makers) cannot do the right thing because their board rooms are populated & run by 'good ole boy clubs'. Engineering takes a back seat...build quality, vision, long-term investments & market focus, etc...it all takes a back seat to the drive for short-term profitability; and now more than ever considering how their backs are against the wall. Conversly, Honda & Toyota are both highly profitable, are cash rich, & their cars command top dollar. They can & do lead in innovation, in build quality, in reliability, in model design, fuel effeciency, styling, etc.Us Americans have too long been lulled into buying sub-standard vehicles on the allurement of radical redesigns of the 'sheet metal'. Well, great cars these days are about a whole lot more than sheet metal & mega-displacement V8 engines pushing overweight hulks around. Moreover, as the price of fuel continues to rise, we'll see the Japanese investments into smaller displacement motors, and into alternative fuel solutions pay off even more.I'd buy a Chevy, a Ford, or a Dodge if they could match up to a Honda or a Toyota...but they don't....wish they did. BTW, having driven & observed a good many American fleet vehicles for over 25 yrs, sadly, they still lag behind the top Asian manufacturers in most all significant categories.

Because the media always views American as junk and Jap as best ever. Its not true but thats what people hear so they believe it.Hey Honda you are wrong. The F150 has the highest American content of any car sold in the US. Take the time to actually read before you share an opinion on something you know nothing about. You will see that 3 of the top 10 are Ford, 5 GM and 2 Toyota. Where is Honda and Subaru at?What Are the Top American-Made Cars? Cars.com's American-Made Index rates vehicles built and bought in the U.S. Factors include sales, where the car's parts are made and whether the car is assembled in the U.S. Models that have been discontinued are disqualified, as are those with a domestic-parts content rating below 75 percent. Rank Make/Model U.S. Assembly Location Last Rank 1. Ford F-150* Dearborn, Mich.; Kansas City, Mo.; Norfolk, Va. 1 2. Toyota Camry**, Camry Solara Georgetown, Ky. 3 3. Chevrolet Silverado 1500* Fort Wayne, Ind.; Pontiac, Mich. 2 4. Chevrolet Cobalt Lordstown, Ohio 5 5. Ford Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac Louisville, Ky.; St. Louis 6 6. Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx Kansas City, Kan. 7 7. Chevrolet TrailBlazer* Moraine, Ohio 10 8. Toyota Sienna Princeton, Ind. 9 9. Pontiac G6 Orion, Mich. — 10. Ford Escape** Kansas City, Mo. 8

First off the only part made in america on a Ford F-150 is the radiator cap. All other parts are either made in Mexico, Phillipenes, or other countries. Yeah, the final assembly is here in the U.S., but so is Toyota, Subaru, Honda, and others. So are they REALLY domestic if they practice the same as the other "foreign" car makers?
