On older cars the firing order was stamped on the intake manifold some where. If you find it you will start with #1 and that would be the first spark plug on the passenger side if it is a 4 cylinder engine. You could also call a dealer or a junk yard they could tell you.

The distributor cap should have a mark (c), this is for the #1. The next one going clockwise is #3, then #4 and then #2 (this should end up next to the #1, the counter-clockwise side. On the engine the #1 is front of engine, (drive belts end) followed by 2, 3, and 4. Connect the wires, matching these numbers. The firing order is 1 3 4 2.
