Honda actually recalled a bunch of Odysseys (in your generation) for a transmission problem, so the first thing you should probably do is check to see if your model is part of the recall. Anyway, your best bet would be to get your van inspected by a professional (and reliable) car shop or Honda dealer.

the warranty on the 2000 Odyssey transmission is extended to 7 years or 109,000 miles from Honda for internal transmission problems. The usual 'symptom' is a 'check engine" light that is illuminated and a fault code that indicates a problem with a torque converter circuit malfunction. The underlying problem is wear in the transmisison clutches that causes the torque converter circuit to become clogged with debris and cause the fault code to be set.in the early stages you typically don't feel anything; you'll just notice that the check engine light is on. In later stages the symptom is usually a "hard shift" between second and third gear. In severe cases, you'll see the tachometer "flare" at shift points when the engine speed increases but the transmission doesn't "catch" right away. It rarely gets to that point on the Odyssey because most customers bring it in when the check engine light is on.If the check engine light is not on, you probably don't have a problem with the transmission because the on-board system monitors several different functions that could be indicative of a transmission failure and the chances of having a transmission problem that is not picked up by the on-board diagnostic system (other than a leak or low fluid level) are pretty remote.Hope that answers your question
