I went to have a copy made of my '03 Honda Civic ignition key. I was told that a key couldn't simply be cut because it is "programmable"...what exactly does that mean?How do I get a copy and how much does it typically cost?

it is a theft deterrent device and you have to go to the dealer to get a new one... don't know the $$ call the dealer and ask them, it'd be faster and more accurate then all of our dumb guesses

there not lying but there not giving u all the info...yes they can cut a key and it will work the doors and turn your inition switch but it will not start your car due to the fact of the imoblizer system in that car its to keep theifs from stealing it..its usualy 70 bucks to get a key programed so depending on what u want it for it my or my not be worth it to u
