I called a honda dealership & they quoted me at $20/plug for my plugs. Is there other spark plugs that are as reliable as these? Also, I heard that changing the spark plug cables will help my performance also. If so what kind should I buy?I don't race I just want to do preventive maintenance. My car has 104k miles and the manual says that at 110K I need to change the plugs. What else can I do at 110K on my own?

You don't really need to buy dealer plugs. Just go to the local Pep Boys or Auto Zone and get the recommended plugs and wires. You will also need a new Cap and Rotor. The Cap is where the wires attach and the rotor is in the cap. Find out when the timing belt was changed and check all fluids. Good luck.

First off Honda uses ngk spark plugs.Ngk has 4 or 5 different kinds of spark plug ranging in price from say $5-$7 for 2 plugs to $15-$18 for 2.The top of the line is a Laser iridium plug working down from that you have Laser platinum, iridium IX ,G power,V power, and standard.Honda will replace your plugs with the standard ngk plugs which ofcourse are the oem plug for your car.$20 a plug for those plugs is the biggest rip off ever. For $20 you could get 4 iridium IX plugs.Which are much better plugs. As far as plug wires the factory ngk wires are very hard to beat however there are better wires available made by company's like MSD,Magnicore,Nology. And you could spend up to acouple hundred bucks if you wanted, but you'll never notice the difference. You can get Msd 8.5mm wires on ebay for like $50.You will never notice the difference between the wires or the plugs unless you have a 500hp civic and then you could pickup 15-20 from iridium plugs and racing plug wires, but not on a stocker.Change your air filter, get a step up from a standard plug, and buy some good quality msd wires. That's all you need and you'll save big if you do it yourself.

I think if you ask what type of plugs your car needs. I do beleave the answer is uridium plugs. Its a low resistant plugs used by honda, so they don t have to have a very hot ignition system. I do not know if your year civic needs it, but if it does, and you do not put them in your vechile, poor gas milage, loss of horsepower, etc etc... Just check if they are uriduim plugs before you go after market, if they are you can buy uridium after market plugs cheaper then the dealer anyways.Good Luck
