Default is there always VTEC printed on Honda VTEC Engines?

Hello. I'm a college student and my car just recently broke down (1990 oldsmobile) and the shop people said they have to put a new engine in for about 2k so i figured since its not that great of a car ill just get another used one. im thinking a civic because of affordability, durability, and fuel economy.so heres my question. ive been shopping around on cars.com (if neone else has any other popular sites lemme know) and ive found honda civics that say they are LX and EX (which should always have VTEC engines vs the DX right?) and the pictures of the engine dont show VTEC on them. (most are 1994-97) Does that mean they are falsely advertising or am i misinformed?appreciate the help.

my brothers 97 civic ex, which has a VTEC motor from the factory, does not have any VTEC emblem on the motor itself.by the way the only civics that have VTEC from the factory are the ex and si

V-Tec is always stamped into the metal on a Honda/Acura V-Tec engine. (it's also a badge on the car and will say V-Tec under the back license plate/holder)

The LX is not a vtec. is is the sohc 105 HP motor the same thats in the DX. The EX is the SOHC vtec which has 127 HP. As for them all showing VTEC they dont. My 99 civic EX has the D16y8 which is the SOHC VTEC and it didnt say VTEC on it. That was befor I swaped it to a B16 DOHC VTEC. As for the years, The 1992-1995 is one body style, and the 1996-2000 is another.

I don't know for sure but my guess is that it says so on the engine. But 94 to 97 civics are not Vtec.To get a vtec in those years you'd have to get a honda Prelude, acura GS-R or NSX.I had a integra GS 1998, and a 1999 and no vtec on those.good luck in your seach.

Usually that is the case, however, the 1992-2000 Honda Civic EX and the 1992-1995 Civic Si do have VTEC yet doesn't have it posted on the valve cover. The EX and Si probably don't get any respect because it's a single cam engine, but there's no doubt that it has VTEC contrary to what phil R says. The 1999-2000 Si has the DOHC VTEC engine with VTEC on the valve cover. The LX is basically a DX with a power package.Another difference is that the LX has a 1.5 litre engine where as the EX has a 1.6. Either way, you'll get a good car.

cars.com is no help - go to autotrader.com - i just bought a 2000 civic ex coupe 2 days ago, all civic engines are vtech (sohc) engines but not all have the logo printed on them but if u want more speed try and find a SI which has a (dohc) vtech motor
