I took my CRV to the dealer today and the "Service Consultant" indicated that the only transmission oil to be use with the car would be Honda -only- I smile and I thought I would do the research. Any comments?

Yes, in a pinch you can use Dexron III, but only if you have a severe leak and you're trying to get it to the dealership. An alternative would be to buy the Honda fluid off eBay and take it to a mechanic to have them service it.BUT, in my opinion, the transmission is one of the things I would want the dealership to work on, especially considering the relatively small amount more they charge.
