basically it keeps in at certain rpm's when you need a lil boost, it controls your valves electronically so you get the power when you need it

The Vtec system is a computer controlled system that adjusts the inlet camshaft timing giving you more power at different rev's. Most Japanese Manufactures now have similar systems like "MiVec" in Mitsubishi.

My first car was honda with B16A engine ... it engage at rpm 5.8 .. you'll feel a sudden strong torque and start accelarating rapidly .... your engine will sound angry .... its a feelings with honda sport vtec engine ...... the new city or ivtec or single cam vtec may not have the exact things .......only those sports vtec engine have this such as .. B16A, B16B, B18A, B30 ... if youre driving the new city or civic ....... you just got some extra power only .. not the sport true vtec power .......

It engages at a specific RPM when certain requirements are met, You need the right oil pressure, engine temp has to be above certain temp, and it has to be under heavy load, meaning a certain percentage of pedal needs to be pressed. After these are met, the cams switch from a small lobe to a more aggresive load creating more power. If you look at a cam on a VTEC engine you will notice 3 lobes per space as opposed to 2.

Its engages at 5500 rpm on most VTEC engines and dont try to hit VTEC when your engine is cold wont work bro. You can feel the difference in DOHC engines and also SOHC. But SOHC only in first gear you can feel the pull after that no lol. DOHC all the way to red line bro.

It's just gives the engine a boost of power at high rpm and when it triggers you feel a boost in the car's engine. You can feel it more with an intake and exhaust.

at wthat RPM does VTec engages at a 2008 civic Si with a K20Z3 engine?
