It's not cooling or blowing hot - hotter than ambient temp? In the first case, the AC is simply not working which could be caused by many reasons from leaking refrigerant to a blown fuse. In the second case, it's the blend door control problem.

This may sound silly but the first question is does the car have air conditioning? the 2001 DX did not come from the factory with air conditioning so if you are a new owner of the car you may be assuming it has air conditioning when it doesn't. There was a dealer installed accessory air conditioning kit so it may in fact have air, but I just have to ask.as for the problem of a system blowing hot assuming you do have air conditioning, you will need to have a dealer or air conditioning shop start with a refrigerant service. This car does not use "Freon". It has refrigerant R-134a, so don't 'go to the parts store and buy freon". R-134a must be recaptured, cleaned and recycled using specialized equipment, so take it to someone who knows what they're doing. It would be unusual for the problem to be simply 'low refrigerant' because R-134a systems have barrier hoses to prevent a loss of the gas as was more common on the older R-12 (freon) systems. If the system is blowing hot and there is no refrigerant, the technician will have to leak test the system to find out where the refrigerant is escaping from. This isn't something you can do at home.hope that helps.
