I don't know specifically, but I always change timing belts every 30,000 miles. Some say they're ok till 40-45,000, but I think better safe than sorry...

On a Mk1 CR-V (1997-2002) the the belt should be changed as follows:Vehicles built before July '98 - every 60,000 miles or 5 yearsVehicles built after July '98 - every 72,000 miles or 8 yearsThe Mk2 CR-V (2002 onwards) has a timing chain that doesn't need replacing - just checking.Note - don't be surprised if you get a hefty quote to change the timing belt on a CR-V. It is a very labour-intensive job that require the engine to be freed from some of it's mountings before the belt can be changed. As they say on t.v. - Don't try this at home!

Id check with the dealer or a workshop manual.... but generally 50k miles or 5 years......Of course being Honda it will probably last 100k but if it did break & all the engine parts mangle together its going to cost you a fortune !

depends if u have a newer body style with the 2.4l 4 cyl then it dont have a tb it runs a chain and u dont have to service them until they make noise but if its older than about 90k is what we reccomend

What year CR-V do you have from 2002 on they had a Chain not a belt ant these do not need changing.Prior to 2002 you will need to check the manual or ask the dealership as there were two possibilities based on engine size either 60K or 90K or 7 years regardless of miles.

Default Re: When should a timing belt on a Honda cr-v be changed?

Hello.
I just got back from the Honda Dealer to have an automatic window motor fixed. While there they told me I needed my timing belt replaced. I have a
'98 Honda CR-V with 49,000 miles on it. I have read that I do indeed need a new timing belt because of the year of the model. My cost is about $1200
is that an awfully lot? I saw that the part itself is about $50. sigh.
