Default civic knock sensor?

ok so heres how it goes.i have a 96 civic ex 5spd and i had a new(used) motor put in the car.which i did it myself.but the motor i got is a jdm zc, and it did not come with a knock sensor?so i used the one from the old motor.without the knock sensor the car wont stay on. it will just shut right off.the check engine light is on.the speedometer fluctuated in the beginning but now its totally dead.anyone who have swapped a jdm motor have this problem?is it ok to drive around with the speedometer dead?(it's been over 6months.)what should i do?please help.thanks alotthe car is actually a obd2 and the ecu was not replaced

The ZC is an obd1 engine, and actually has less HP than the d16y8 you replaced?!? pretty much you are stuck. you have created more problems than you realize. Did you replace the ECU too? that might be the problem as the OBD2 ECU looks for the knock sensor. try getting an obd1 ECU then you will need the conversion harness from OBD2 to OBD1. This is why you make sure you have everything covered before you do swaps. I have a 99 civic EX 5-speed, I swapped in a OBD1 B16, I had to change the oil pump, knock sensor, shift linkage, and fuel injectors to convert it to OBD2. I even used my EX wiring harness from my motor. Your best bet would take it to a reputable shop and get it fixed. You will save yourself alot of headache, and problems in the long run.

If you didn't replace the ECU you have a mix up of a OBD1 and OBD2 motor and ECU you have to replace the ECU and make everything match....take it to a good shop and let them fix it.
