Usually this happens when i go to the gas station , when i try to turn it on, it wont start it just cranks, i have to wait about 3 or 4 minutes before i try again then it starts slowly. What could it be?when i took it to the smog check ( it passed) they told me i should replace the fuel cap, could that make a difference

Fuel pump or fuel filter. Start with changing the filter and go from there. When was the last tune up?

Could be the fuel pump "main relay" they get old and the solder inside becomes brittle and cracked. Then when they get hot the heat expansion is enough to allow cause an open, thus not allowing current flow. No current flow through this relay means your electric fuel pump will not turn on. Anyway, sometimes when the relays are starting to go, these symptoms will occur but if you wait a few minutes, the relay will cool off and contract then it will work again. If this is more of a problem in warm weather, it may just be it. Hope this helps.

Had same problem with my 90Civic about 2 years back. Ashley H, called it perfect. Problem was the fuel pump relay. I think it cost me only about $50-$70 for the part, and that was from the Honda dealer. Only couple minutes to install, but I would recommend have it checked by experienced Honda mechanic. I was able to diagnose my problem with help from a mechanic friend and my own personal experience, but someone that has dealt with Hondas would be able to quickly diagnose problem.

It could be the fuel pump and the filter. Change that and see how everything turns out. Hope that helped
