And what benefits will I have if I choose to certify it?I've been told by the previous owner that it would cost $400 to certify it.Today when I met the original owner she told me that I can get it certified by taking it to a Honda dealer for $595. I took it to a workshop (non Honda) for comprehensive testing and found out that there is no mechanical defect at all - only things related to regular maintenance could be done for better performance. By looking at it anyone can see that its well taken care of...I haven't talked to the dealer yet about certification - its something she did through the person she knew... Now that its 4 years and 65k miles will it be useful to do certification that will last till 7 years/ 100k miles?

You can't take your own in off the street and have them certify it. It is done when a dealer takes a newer Honda in on trade and they inspect it, certify it and warranty it.

Unless you are a dealer, you CAN'T certify a used Honda. There are certain criteria that has to be met for a Honda to be certified and only a liscensed Honda technician can do so and only with the authorization of a manager of a Honda dealership. Save your money and tell your previous owner that he has no idea what he is talking about.

You can't pay to have a Honda Certified. Only a Honda dealership that sells the vehicle can certify it. And then only if it qualifies. Certification is not something that can be purchased.
